Voo is one of Belgium’s biggest internet, mobile and TV operators. They wanted to update their set-top box TV service in line with the new possibilities (and expectations) streaming had brought. We redesigned their TV experience and expanded it to include mobile and web. Now branded as their Voo TV+ offer, it has successfully managed to retain existing customers and acquire new, with a 4.3 star app
store rating.
TV projects provide an interaction design challenge as the same feature needs to work across platforms. TV interfaces use a remote, requiring minimal clicks to navigate and clear focus states of what’s selected. For each platform, we adapted to native patterns. We extended the existing product from just set-top box to accompanying apps.
TV interfaces often use rails to navigate as it reduces the number of clicks to view content. We took this a step further integrating the main menu to be each rail. Introducing profiles helped surface better recommendations.
With a mix of live tv and video on demand available via catch-up, transactional and channel subscriptions, it was key to clarify to the user how to watch content. We worked on displaying this clearly and making it simple to access more.
